Eastern Mediterranean University Dr. Fazıl Küçük Faculty of Medicine began its educational journey in the 2012-2013 academic year with its first cohort of students.
Our mission is to educate physicians who produce knowledge on a universal scale, aim to enhance the quality of life for individuals in line with societal needs, continuously improve themselves by following advancements, master advanced medical technologies at a universal level, address public health issues, work well in teams, uphold professional values, possess leadership qualities, and communicate effectively.
Our vision is to become a leading and preferred medical faculty recognized regionally and globally, with advanced student-centered education and research opportunities, and a strong institutional culture and identity.
Medical education at our faculty is provided through the Marmara University - Eastern Mediterranean University International Joint Medical Program.
The first three years of the six-year program are completed at Eastern Mediterranean University. The final three years are conducted at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine, accredited in medical education by UTEAK (National Accreditation Board for Medical Education) and positively evaluated by the World Health Organization (WHO). Turkish language education is offered to international students across the first three years.
The language of instruction is English. In the first three years, alongside the theoretical and laboratory courses in basic and clinical sciences, the program includes our prestigious Introduction to Clinical Skills (ICS) program, which enriches the basic sciences curriculum with clinical applications. Small group sessions employing the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) method allow students to enhance their approaches to clinical cases, develop their decision-making, leadership, and research skills through reasoning and cause-effect analysis.
Additionally, our program includes specialized study modules tailored to students' interests in fields such as medical humanities, behavioral sciences, philosophy, natural sciences, social sciences, communication, arts, and informatics. In the fourth and fifth years, students participate in practical internships focused on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. In the sixth year, they take responsibility for patient care under the supervision of faculty members, completing their education in a real-world clinical environment.
Our goal is to educate high-quality physicians who are aware of global health issues, inquisitive, ethically conscious, and capable of contributing to universal knowledge through close monitoring of scientific advancements. These physicians will possess strong analytical skills and the ability to transform technology into knowledge.
The Faculty building, where education and training activities are conducted, is designed with a student-centered architectural approach and equipped with the most up-to-date scientific facilities required by modern medicine. It houses research and education laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment, an anatomy laboratory featuring cadaver pools, autopsy and dissection tables, and life-like models. It also includes computer and reading rooms, and a cafeteria.
Students are encouraged to engage in multidisciplinary research. They are also offered opportunities to participate in internships and exchange programs at hospitals and academic institutions abroad and in Turkey through international organizations such as the EU and WHO or collaborations with partner universities. Throughout the education program, students gain experience in conducting scientific research. As part of the Introduction to Clinical Skills (ICS) program, which spans the first three years, students are trained in research methodology and statistical analysis. Each year, they undertake a research project, presenting their findings at national or international scientific events or publishing them in academic literature.
Our education program is conducted in parallel with Marmara University Faculty of Medicine and awards a joint degree recognized by the Higher Education Council (YÖK) of Turkey. Graduates are qualified to practice medicine in Turkey and globally. They can also pursue residency programs for medical specialization or continue their academic journey through doctoral programs to become scientists.
