Eastern Mediterranean University Dr. Fazıl Küçük Medicine Faculty is organizing events within the scope of the EMU Alumni Communication and Career Research Directorate’s 9th annual International Career Days. The events that will take place on online platforms is to gather expert medicine professionals together with EMU Dr. Fazıl Küçük Medicine Faculty students.
Within the scope of the 9th International Career Days, EMU Dr. Fazıl Küçük Medicine Faculty academic staff member Prof. Dr. Ömür Çınar Elçi delivered an online speech in English titled “35 Years Long Journey in Global Public Health: Career Suggestions to Medical Students and Future Physicians” on Thursday, 8 April 2021 at 12:00.
Prior to Prof. Elçi’s speech, EMU Dr. Fazıl Küçük Medicine Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Nahide Gökçora delivered the opening speech of the event and stated that, thanks to this event, it is aimed that the future physician candidates plan their career options on a more solid basis after their medical trainings. Dean Prof. Dr. Gökçora added that making the right choice regarding one’s profession holds a critical role on that individual’s happiness and success. Therefore, Prof. Dr. Gökçora underlined the importance of career days in the field of medicine.
“Practice your Profession with Passion”
During his speech, Prof. Dr. Ömür Çınar Elçi talked about his professional journey that started after the medical training he received in Ege University and, shared his professional experiences with the participants of the online event. After working as a doctor for a while in the Eastern Anatolia region, Prof. Dr. Elçi told about his PhD adventure that started as a result of the right guidance of the people who came across him, and his career as an epidemiologist in the United States, where he went for post-doctoral research. Advising the students to always listen to their intuitions, Prof. Dr. Ömür Çınar Elçi emphasized the importance of passion in practicing medical profession which is the key to success.
Prof. Dr. Elçi ensured the students that they will achieve success if they enjoy in their field of medicine. According to Prof. Dr. Elçi, loving what you do and making decisions towards this direction is the most important matter in a physician’s professional life. Stating his belief on always achieving success even though there might be some challenges on the way to reach success, Prof. Dr. Elçi stated that being a doctor is not only being a scientist but also an artist.
