A collaboration agreement regarding "Cancer Recording and Screening" project was signed between TRNC Ministry of Health and Eastern Mediterranean University Dr. Fazıl Küçük Medicine Faculty.
EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam and Minister of Health Ahmet Gülle signed the protocol which has the aim of regulating the working principles of "Cancer Recording and Screening Project" at a ceremony organised for this purpose. Within the framework of the protocol, Ministry of Health will divide the "Cancer Fight Center" into two distinct units, namely "Cancer Recording" and "Cancer Early Diagnosis and Screening Unit". The ministry has plans of training staff for effective recording of cancer cases.
Within the framework of the protocol, staff members who will undertake duties at Cancer Tracking and Inspection Center will receive training from staff members from TR Cancer Department and/or İzmir Cancer Recording Center. EMU Dr. Fazıl Küçük Medicine Faculty will draft regulations necessary for recording and screening and present it to the ministry. Within the framework of the protocol, parties will also organise informative and educational meetings related with the topic.
During the signature ceremony, Basic Health Services Department Chair Figen İnce, EMU Medicine Faculty Dean Nahide Gökçora, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam and Minister of Health Ahmet Gülle delivered speeches.
In her address, Basic Health Services Department Chair Figen İnce stated that the Ministry of Health has been working on "Cancer Recording and Screening Project" in collaboration with EMU and T.R. Cancer Department for two years. İnce put forth that they have been carrying out research on the most suitable system that would give them accurate data on cancer as well as a scientific cancer profile. İnce also added that on Monday, the first group will start receiving training on the project.
EMU Dr. Fazıl Küçük Medicine Faculty Dean Nahide Gökçora stated that they initiated a scientific study and prepared the project, accordingly to gather healthy information on the issue. Gökçora added that following the finalization of legal procedures, relevant training will commence on Monday.
In his address, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam stressed the importance EMU gives to civic involvement and community awareness. Prof. Dr. Osam also expressed his happiness in the university's involvement in projects as such.
Minister of Health Ahmet Gülle stated that cancer is the most important disease of our age and their ministry is working towards the formation of a territorial vision regarding this disease.
Gülle also put forth that the project will bring an end to complications encountered in the field of cancer and ensure the availability of accurate data in the formation of sustainable policies in fighting cancer.
