Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Dr. Fazıl Küçük Medicine Faculty 2019 – 2020 Academic Year Honoring the Top Student of the Semester and Tree Planting Event for Graduates took place on Tuesday, the 27th of October 2020 with the participation of Dr. Fazıl Küçük Medicine Faculty academic staff members, graduates and families.
Following a minute of silence and the Turkish National Anthem, Dr. Fazıl Küçük Medicine Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Nahide Gökçora made the opening speech of the event. Stating that the first graduates of the faculty was the graduates of 2018, Prof. Dr. Nahide Gökçora added that olive trees were planted in faculty garden for 2018 graduates 2 years ago and, the produce of these trees were collected and a type of Cypriot traditional olive called “çakıstes” was made. During her speech, Prof. Dr. Gökçora shared her wishes for graduates of EMU who are now all around world. While addressing the graduates, Prof. Dr. Gökçora stated that the graduates as young doctors are not only accountable to themselves and their families but also to their countries and humanity and, continued by saying that they should work hard by using their imaginations. Prof. Dr. Gökçora reminded the newly graduated young doctors the importance of unity and solidarity and, their responsibility to stay against to the ones who are opposing it.
“Feeling the Same Emotions and Excitement”
During a speech delivered by EMU Vice rector for Social and Cultural Affairs Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz İşçioğlu, the happiness and excitement of EMU family regarding the success of graduates were mentioned. Stating that the white doctor’s gown representing purity, honesty, hope and healing, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İşçioğlu wished success to the new doctor for their professional lives. The top student of 3rd semester, Dr. Yeliz Lerzan Baybar stated that the journey which started 6 years ago with dreams and goals is not finished yet and, on the contrary it is a new beginning that they will be walking through with the awareness of their responsibilities. Dr. Baybar expressed her gratitude for all the academic staff members who have helped the medicine students through their journey.
Following the opening speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz İşçioğlu presented a plaque and a Crow sculpture which is a symbol of Famagusta to the 3rd Semester Top Student Dr. Yeliz Lerzan Baybar. The event continued with the presentation of the diplomas by Prof. Dr. Nahide Gökçora. The event ended with the olive tree planting session by the student representative Dr. Buse Ataoğlu on behalf of the 3rd semester Medicine graduates and, the oath ceremony.
